Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! Here is a pic of the kids with presents from us. Julia enjoyed watching Grant open everything. Also a picture of the cookies we made for Santa, as well as the Kimchee (it's Korean cabbage) that Grant insisted the reindeer would want to eat. He was right - they ate it all! I don't have pictures of the presents Santa brought (we video taped that) but Grant was SO HAPPY that he got everything he asked for: a remote control snake, and Zoob Jr.

Julia eats cereal!

I had planned on waiting until Julia was 6 months old to introduce cereal, but I guess I was bored today so I bought some cereal and fed her. She did pretty well too! The first few bites went in and out, but then she got the hang of it and ate it all. Now I just have to remember to do this everyday. Hopefully she will start sleeping longer stretches at night again. She had been getting up only once, but then got a cold. So for the past 2 or 3 weeks (they blend together!) she has been getting up 3 times most nights. So maybe I'm hoping the cereal works a little magic.

Visit with Santa

Santa came to Blake's office today, so I took the kids to see him. Grant made Santa a present, and Santa gave both kids some treats. The first thing Grant said to him was, "Julia looks like you!" since she was wearing her Santa outfit.

And since we got our first snowfall on Tuesday, Grant and I went sledding while Julia was sleeping (don't worry - I had the baby monitor with us!). Grant loved it, and didn't even seem to notice when his boot fell off and he was walking in his sock! Crazy boy, it was FREEZING outside! Although today is much much much much colder and the wind is blowing everything around.

Grant's first visit to the ER

Well we knew it was bound to happen sooner or later - Grant finally had reason to visit the ER. It was bedtime (of course - don't these things always happen before bed!) and he fell off one chair and knocked his eyebrow against the wooden arm of another chair. After debating and having our friend Traci take a look at it (she's a nurse), we decided a visit to the ER was in order. It was a great experience too! They were so nice and were able to close it up with Dermabond - meaning no stitches! Grant watched Polar Express while we waited. Were we only there about 90 minutes. As we left, they all said goodbye and gave Grant a bear. He didn't have any pain and in fact I think he had fun. I'm glad things went well, but I hope he doesn't make us go back for a long time! Oh, and Julia came along too. She was due to eat as we left, but fell asleep instead and slept the whole time. What a good baby!!!

Julia laughed!

Big news yesterday - Julia laughed for the first time! I was bouncing her on my knees singing a song and she started laughing. Not sure if she thinks I'm funny or if she thinks it is funny how out of tune I am. Either way, she laughed!

Chocolate cake...yummmm

Tomorrow I have some high school friends coming to visit, and one of them just had a birthday. So Grant helped me make a chocolate cake for her today. I planned on letting him lick the beaters, but he I turned my back for a second and he was already helping himself. Can't say that I blame him, it was some yummy batter! Can't wait to taste the cake tomorrow!

Gingerbread tree

Since it's too cold to play outside, Grant and I made a gingerbread tree today. When we were finished, I put some green icing on one finger and white on the other. He says the green tastes better :) He was in heaven when I told him he could have more! He did most of the frosting with only a little guidance from me.
And here is sweet Julia, just laying on the beautiful blanket Taffy made her, checking her fine self out in the mirror.

More 3 month pics

Since I bought so many 3 month pictures that they gave me the disc, thought I would post 2 other poses. I had the same pose taken with Grant when he was 3 months old (the one with the blanket, except his was blue) and to see the 2 pictures next to each other is pretty neat. We are going to hang them in our house somewhere, hopefully soon. My mom has a picture of me in the same pose when I was the same age (that's where I got the idea).
Oh - and I FINALLY got to see Julia roll over! She has been rolling for almost a month but it's always in her crib, when she wakes up (or is trying to go to sleep). Tonight I put her in her crib and stayed right there and she did it! It was so cute - she pulls her little (not really - her thighs are huge!) legs up, then pop - she rolls to the right. Tomorrow I'll try to get a video.

Gingerbread House

Grant and I bought a gingerbread house kit a few weeks ago and he's been begging to make it. Yesterday we were waiting for a repairman so I decided it would be a good way to kill some time. Grant was one happy camper! Here is our finished product, I think it turned out pretty well considering a 3 year old had a big part in making it. When it came time to decorate the roof, I had to feed Julia and noticed Grant was being very quiet while I was in the other room. Grant's mouth was a little discolored and some of the candy was missing when I returned - I was able to put 2 and 2 together to figure out what happened :)
Here is Jules in her Hawkeye sweatshirt. Doesn't she look happy to know she's a Hawkeye?

Happy Thanksgiving

I know it's a little late, but wanted to get these pictures posted. We had a great Thanksgiving with Blake's family, and the kids had a great time wearing each other out. Here are some pics of eating (of course), Grant dressed as a gangsta, gift opening (we had Christmas too!) and the kids.

3 months old

I had Julia's 3 month pictures taken yesterday. She did such a great job! I had to wake her when we got there, but she was all smiles the whole time. She had so many good shots, it was hard to choose. Here is one of my favorites (I bought so many pictures that I got the CD with all images).

Grant's prayer

Grant says prayers before bed every night. Tonight part of his prayer included "I hope that everyone who comes to visit is beautiful and nice". Oh the simple things in life :)

She rocks, she ROLLS!

I put Julia down for a nap this afternoon - flat on her tummy - and when she woke up (very unhappy), she was on her back! So I didn't actually witness her roll, but she obviously did it! Maybe I'll get to see it happen tomorrow, and if I'm really lucky I will capture it on video. Guess she's trying to catch up with Emerson :)

Enough!

I have had enough with the poo and pee for one day! Julia has been through 3 outfits and I've changed her sheet twice today. Goodness. Maybe I need to go up a size in diapers for her. Or maybe I should invent an outfit that's a diaper. That would sure save me some time! Man is she lucky she is cute :)

Don't forget to vote!

Here is a video of Grant. He is probably the only person who enjoys the political commercials, and he asks me all sorts of questions. I think he will enjoy voting with me today. Anyway, this is what he's learned: (for those who don't hear him talk ALL THE TIME like I do, he is saying "I'm John McCain and I approved this message")

Happy Halloween!

Julia is one tired strawberry. After we took her to the neighbors, I put on her pjs and was holding her in my arms. She was smiling at me and sticking out her tongue, then just closed her eyes and fell asleep. I didn't know a baby could be this easy!
Grant ran as fast as he could from one house to the next.

Here he is checking out his loot.
I love this picture of Julia - she smiles and coos all the time. She is such a happy little girl!

Also, Darci and Todd had their baby on Halloween - a little boy named Ryan Scott. He was 9 pounds, 2 ounces and 20.5 inches. I just saw some pictures and he is one cute baby! Although he doesn't look much like a newborn, that's for sure! The Shoemakers are all doing well.

The Great Pumpkin

Dad helped me carve a pumpkin with Grant today. To anyone else attempting this, I suggest buying the $4 carving kit at Wal-Mart - it made it so easy! Grant likes his pumpkin, in fact he put his face next to it and said "I love you, Pumpkin".

Costume party

Grant had his costume party at preschool today, it was so cute to see all the kids in their costumes. There were games and of course cookies at the end. Mom, Dad, Julia and I got to see the little parade of all the kids too. Here is his class.
The kids must have felt like movie stars with all the moms snapping pictures!
Grant and his teacher, Mrs. Houlton.
Grant and his Mama :)
Decisions, decisions!

Our monkey boy.

It's a bird, it's a plane...

It has been so beautiful the past few days, so Grant and I have been playing outside. He wore his Superman costume the other day and had me chasing him around the yard. I'm sure a few people who drove by thought I was crazy, as I was holding onto his cape chasing him in circles. Oh well!

Julia is 2 months old

Can't believe Julia is 2 months old already! She had her doc appointment yesterday and was 13 pounds, 24 inches. Exactly the same as Grant was at 2 months - how strange is that? That puts her at 90% for weight and 92% for height. She also got shots - poor girl was smiling and cooing at me one minute, then BAM they stuck her with the needles. Her little face looked so scared and she started screaming. Oh well, we both survived and she fell asleep shortly afterwards.
Grant is running around the house "learning to fly" right now. He's wearing a Superman costume with a cape so decided he needed to fly. So he took a book with birds on it (off Julia's bouncy seat), looked at it and declared that he had learned. So now he's flopping himself all over the house!
Funny story about Grant - the other day I asked Blake what he wanted me to make for dinner. His reply was "I'll eat whatever you give me". Grant pipes up "You'll get what you get and don't throw a fit!" I guess he hears that at preschool - made us laugh. Another good story - the other day he sang "Hey Good Lookin" to a boogie in a Kleenex. Oh the things a 3 year old thinks of!

Pumpkin Patch with the Machaceks

Lyn, Steve, Drew and Josh came to visit this weekend. Of course we had to go to the Pumpkin Patch! Although it was cold when we got there, the kids had a ton of fun!
Drew and Julia.
Josh and his sugar stick.
For Uncle Jake - you'll be proud to know Grant knew exactly who this was and was very excited! Did I mention the Patch has lots of random things? Not sure if other Star Wars people were there or not.

Pumpkin Patch

We went back to the Pumpkin Patch today (that is the fifth time Grant and I have been this season). For those of you who don't know, the Patch is 150 acres of fall fun. There are shows and lots of things to see, jumping pillows, train and tractor rides and all sorts of other things. Google Vala's Pumpkin Patch to get the full run down. Anyway, it was another beautiful day out there. The corn maze is new this year and was lots of fun. I was a little concerned Julia would get shaken baby in the stroller though - it was a bumpy ride! And the paintball guns were new which of course Grant and Blake had to check out.
